Margaret Emma Henley was born on 4 September 1888, the sickly daughter of author William Ernest Henley and his wife Anna Henley (née Boyle). After dying of cerebral meningitis at the age of five, the little girl was immortalized as "Wendy" by the famous writer, J.M. Barrie, in his children's classic, Peter Pan. Unable to speak clearly, young Margaret had called her friend Barrie her "fwendy-wendy", resulting in the use of "Wendy" in the book. It rapidly became one of England's most popular girl names. Tragically, Margaret didn't survive long enough to read the book; she died on 11 February 1894, a little more than 10 years before the play originally premiered at a London theater and 17 years before the novelization of the story was released.

I read something about "Wendy" coming from someone calling Barrie "fwendy," but I didn't know her whole story. Weird that they failed to mention her alongside the boys in Finding Neverland. Thank you for providing this.
